Exercises and Eye Health
Various studies have found connections between regular exercise and reducing risks for several common eye ailments and disease conditions such as cataracts, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Cardiovascular exercises such as aerobics usually help lower IOP (Intraocular Pressure) which is pressure in your eyes, and it(cardiovascular exercises) also helps to keep the retinal ganglion cells protected.
Exercises also increases the flow of blood to the optic nerve and the retina which leads to an overall improvement in eye health and vision.
Vision problems and eye disease also stem from high blood pressure and high cholesterol. These conditions are predisposing factors to alot of eye related diseases and regular exercises can help to lower both.
Just a 20 minutes brisk walk, jogging up and down a flight of stairs, swimming and the rest can do the trick.
It is also worthy of note that the human eyes are not supposed to be glued to a single object for long periods of time. If you work on a computer all day, the 20-20-20 rule may help prevent eye strain. To use this rule, every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds.
Eye specific exercises like the 20-20-20 rule probably won’t improve your vision, but they can help reduce eye discomfort, especially if your eyes get irritated when working on your digital devices.
